Here is a simple yet tasty desert for a romantic night!
CHOCOLATE MOUSE CAKE
What you will need:
4 cups of chocolate mouse (recipe below)
1 cake (any flavor, I like to use chocolate and yellow)
pan to shape it in
First make the chocolate mouse:
12 oz. semi sweet chocolate chips
1 tsp. orange extract
1/4 cup milk
1/3 cup sugar (white)
10 egg whites beaten to stiff peaks
In a microwave safe bowl add chips, extract and milk melt on high for 1 1/2 minutes let sit in microwave for 1 minute. Remove from micro and stir until smooth, set aside at room tempurature.
Meanwhile, seperate egg making sure not to get any yokes in them. Add a pinch of salt and beat on med-high speed until frothy add 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it forms stiff peaks approx. 8 minutes.
In a large mixing bowl combine melted chocolate and beaten egg whites, fold together gently ( important: do not stir, whip or blend) cover and refridgerate at least 2 hours or overnight.
ASSEMBLING THE CAKE:
In the bottom of pan layer 1/2 inch thick slices of cake to cover entire bottom.
Evenly layer 1/2 inch layer of mouse to cover untire layer of cake.
continue this process (cake/mouse) until pan is full finishing with a layer of cake.
cover and refridgerate at least 4 hours or over night.
When ready to serve, run a knife around edge of pan and invert on a serving plater. Slice and serve with whipped cream.
Enjoy!
